Progress on new toon
Afternoon everyone,
I'm about 15% done with the new cartoon. Expect it to drop the first or second week of March. Also expect to be horrified. See attached.
Love, Jason

The freedom of information yak
If you're an animator and you'd like information on any of the techniques I use, please drop me a line and I'll drop a tutorial blog. Possible topics that come to mind:
Tweening in Spurts
A Good Onion has a Shit-Ton of Layers
Nuance: a Little Dab'll Do Ya
I just thought I'd put it out there. I'm completely self taught, but I'd like to think I've developed a lot of pretty solid techniques. Ask (I'm positive nobody will), and ye shall receive.

Too far, but not far enough
I can do passable to acceptable caricatures, but every now and then a face will completely elude me. Adam Carolla definitely has one of those faces. It's hard for me to pin down exactly what it is that makes him look like... well, him. He has these eyes that tend to stay fixed in size regardless of his expression. At least, in relation to his eyebrows. He exercises enough control over his eyebrows to convey things most people can't with their entire body.
That being said, they looked like dried palm fronds in Bill E. Goat. Overall, his caricature was overdone. As some correctly pointed out, he did indeed resemble Baba Booey more than himself.
Which leads me to tonight's screengrab. I don't want to give too much away, but I'll say that yes, this cartoon does have a few chimpanzees. You'll notice the honkey in the center flanked by twin Gary Dell'Abates. This is how Adam will look in the next toon.
The last version went too far. Is this one not far enough? Let me know what you think.
(I think it looks a hell of a lot better myself.)
